Big news!!

This summer I had the amazing opportunity to be involved with an organization called “Sing Me A Story”. The work they do is really cool!

Basically, they team up with organizations around the country who work with youth- often youth who are experiencing major challenges in their lives (such as illness, family displacement etc). These organizations engage with the youth and encourage them to write their stories. From there, Sing Me A Story enlists songwriters to set those kids’ stories to music. Pretty awesome, right?

So back in August, I got to collaborate on a song with a youth named Dorika, who is a refugee currently living in Northwest Arkansas. We have not met in person, but I felt excited and honored to get to set Dorika’s words to music. Our song is called “Oranges" and it was just released a couple days ago!! Wahoo!

Please do check it out! I am thrilled with how it turned out. You can listen at this link, and should you feel so inclined- all proceeds from the song go to support Sing Me A Story, and Canopy Northwest Arkansas (the organization working directly with Dorika, and doing great work to support many more refugee families in Arkansas).

Big thanks to John Lane for fiddling with me on this tune, and to The Warming House in Minneapolis, MN for hosting our recording session!

Here’s a little glimpse into the song:
